Recyclable Options
Mono-material polyethylene structures with MOPE, with and without EVOH barrier, and what to validate when switching.
Recyclable option: mono-material polyethylene structure
Traditional laminations combine different materials (PET, nylon, aluminum, PE) that cannot be separated in recycling. The alternative is a structure where every layer is polyethylene: MOPE (machine-direction oriented PE) replaces PET as the printed outer layer and is laminated to a PE sealant. The result can be recycled together with other flexible PE plastics in the streams that accept them.
We manufacture two mono-material structures: MOPE/PE/PE white for products that do not require a high barrier, and MOPE/PE/EVOH PE, which adds a thin coextruded EVOH layer for oxygen-sensitive products. Switching requires a review of gauge, seal window and COF, because the film behaves differently from PET on the machine, and we validate it on your line before production.
- MOPE/PE/PE white
- Pouches and bags for pet food, grains, snacks and dry products; white background; no additional barrier.
- MOPE/PE/EVOH PE
- Coffee, snacks, pet food and oxygen-sensitive products that need a barrier inside an all-PE structure.
- Recyclability depends on the collection and recycling infrastructure available in each location; a structure designed to be recycled does not guarantee that it will be recycled.
- We do not offer recyclability or recycled-content certifications. If your project requires a specific certification, we evaluate it with the manufacturer before quoting.
- The EVOH layer is a small fraction of the total structure; its compatibility with each PE recycling stream is reviewed against the criteria of the applicable program.
