Technical Center
This is the technical information we use every day to quote and produce: what each material is, how to read the structures we manufacture, what barrier each one provides, how to prepare artwork, and how to specify dimensions and rollstock for your machine. It is written for packaging buyers and engineers. Values are for reference only: the specification of each product lives in its approved technical data sheet.
Sections
Materials
What each film is, what it adds to the structure and where it is used: PET, BOPP, BOPA, PE, MOPE, EVOH, foil, paper, woven PP.
02Structures
The laminations we manufacture, layer by layer, with their barrier level and typical application in pouches, rollstock and woven bags.
03Barrier Properties
OTR and WVTR explained, test conditions, and typical reference values by structure type.
04Printing and Artwork
Rotogravure, printing on woven PP, IML and screen printing, plus the requirements for artwork that is ready for cylinder engraving.
05Sizing Guide
How each format is measured: stand-up, flat-bottom, three-side seal, pillow, side-gusset, spout pouch, rollstock, woven bag and valve sack.
06Rollstock Specifications
Web width, repeat, diameters, core, splices, eye mark, COF, sealing and unwind direction: what your packaging machine needs.
07Recyclable Options
Mono-material polyethylene structures with MOPE, with and without EVOH barrier, and what to validate when switching.
08Glossary
The flexible packaging terms you will find on a technical data sheet, a quotation or a purchase order.
Barrier map
Specified with numbers, not adjectives.
Each point is a structure we make. The lower and further left, the better it protects against oxygen and moisture.

Frequently asked technical questions.
Which structure should I choose for my product?
It depends on four things: how sensitive the product is to oxygen, moisture and light; how much shelf life you need; how you fill it (by hand, pre-made pouch filler, vertical or horizontal machine); and how it should look on the shelf. From there we start with the simplest structure that meets the need and add barrier only when necessary. If you already use a package that works, send us a sample: it is the fastest reference.
What is a retort pouch and when do I need one?
A pouch that withstands sterilization of the filled product in an autoclave, at 121–135 °C (250–275 °F) under pressure. You need it to keep a wet food (stews, sauces, pet food) shelf-stable at room temperature. It uses structures with nylon and retort-grade CPP, such as PET/ALUMINUM/BOPA/RCPP (opaque) or ALOX PET/BOPA/RCPP (transparent), and is validated with your sterilization process.
How do I know what barrier I need?
Start with the product: if it contains fat, aroma or oxidizes (coffee, snacks, nuts, vitamin powders) it needs oxygen barrier; if it is hygroscopic or crunchy, moisture barrier; if it is light-sensitive, opacity. Then the shelf life: more months, more barrier. With that we choose between a basic structure, a metallized one, one with EVOH or one with foil, and confirm it with a shelf-life test when the product is new.
What machine data do you need to make the rollstock?
Packaging machine make and model, web width and repeat, core diameter (76 or 152 mm / 3 or 6 in), maximum outside diameter, unwind direction, eye mark position and size, seal type (fin or lap) and sealing temperature. If you have a roll that already runs well, a section with its label answers almost everything.
Can you make a recyclable version of my current package?
In many cases, yes, with a mono-material polyethylene structure: MOPE/PE/PE white if your product does not require a high barrier, or MOPE/PE/EVOH PE if it needs oxygen barrier. Gauge, sealing and machine runnability must be reviewed, because MOPE behaves differently from PET. Actual recyclability depends on local infrastructure and we do not offer certifications.
How is artwork approved and what if I change something later?
You place your design on the dieline we send you and return the vector file. We check seals, eye mark, barcodes and colors, send you a proof and, with your written approval, the cylinders are engraved. Any change after that point means engraving new cylinders, with the cost and lead time that implies; that is why the review before approval matters so much.
What does the certificate of analysis include and how do you check it?
Each lot arrives with the manufacturer's certificate: structure, gauge per layer, basis weight, lot number and the tests performed. We check it against your approved technical data sheet on receipt, and if anything does not match, the product is not released until it is resolved. The certificate stays linked to your order for any later inquiry.
Can I reduce the gauge to lower cost?
Sometimes, yes: it is part of the advice we provide. Reducing gauge lowers material and cost, but also stiffness, strength and barrier, so product weight, filling method, transport and shelf life must be reviewed. The right way is to test the proposed structure on your line with your product before changing the specification.
